Abstract

In retrospect the First World War is considered the first instance of modern warfare in the sense of technology being decisive for its outcomes. Even if it may be less obvious the same is true on the level of mass media and means of propaganda. It is therefore the aim of this paper to reflect on the implications of the battling troops being confronted with sound recording (the gramophone) and film (movies).
